Database Consultant
Must Haves:
- Must know how to design a database, comfortable having to create the business logic, choose what tools to use, and create the process for both extracting data and ingesting it into a new Data Wearhouse they will build
- They need someone who can come on and tell them what they need to do and how they will do it. They don’t have anything in place right now, this person will create the structure.
- Candidate should have experience with ETL from multiple data sources (Oracle, Procore, Salesforce, Excel)- all data sources - needs to come up with how to format the data and ingesting into the new DW
- Ideal candidate will have set up an environment before from scratch and designed similar solutions, and have had experience with Azure SQL
What they will ask in the interview:
- They will need this person not to just focus on Strategy, but really answer specific scenarios. He isn't just looking for high level answers, questions are open ended but that's because he wants candidates to detail step by step how they would do or approach things. Be clear about they abilities and real work examples how what they can and have done.
- Basically candidates need to understand that they don't have any structure in place, they don't have a DW spun up yet, they need this person to come in an figure out what tools to use, how to design things and migrate and move the data from the various data sources and spin it up into the new Database this person will set up.
- People from a smaller environment will know how to do this, but in an enterprise environment, they already have everything structured so people just have to complete tasks. Here there is no one to give them a task they have to come up with the idea and implement it.
- It isn't a developer because this is just setting everything up so a data engineer for instance can go and manipulate the data. So the right person has a strong foundation in database design and administration and can come up with how they should go about figuring out how to spin the DW up and get all the data into it.
