Role-Design Engineer - Protection and Controls
Location: Onsite - Topeka, KS
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing engineering design relating to substation, transmission line, and generation equipment control systems and fault protection systems
- Specifying substation equipment using substation ratings
- Designing protective relay systems, metering, and SCADA
- Gathering and analyzing system ratings and providing data to reporting agencies
- Producing detailed project scopes and cost estimates
- Supporting operations and construction personnel in troubleshooting and technical duties
- Preparing and studying technical drawings and specifications
- Directing designers and technicians to ensure compliance with safety and regulations
Essential Skills, Experience:
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Utility experience directly related to electric substation, generation, and transmission line equipment control and fault protection systems
- Knowledge of basic engineering principles and advanced mathematics
- Understanding of schematic, wiring, and logic diagrams
- Knowledge of Generation, Transmission and Distribution system relays and associated protection schemes
- Dependable, self-motivated, detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and proofreading skills
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with other personnel
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases preferred
