Job Description

Role-Design Engineer - Protection and Controls

Location: Onsite - Topeka, KS

 Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing engineering design relating to substation, transmission line, and generation equipment control systems and fault protection systems
  • Specifying substation equipment using substation ratings
  • Designing protective relay systems, metering, and SCADA
  • Gathering and analyzing system ratings and providing data to reporting agencies
  • Producing detailed project scopes and cost estimates
  • Supporting operations and construction personnel in troubleshooting and technical duties
  • Preparing and studying technical drawings and specifications
  • Directing designers and technicians to ensure compliance with safety and regulations

Essential Skills, Experience:

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Utility experience directly related to electric substation, generation, and transmission line equipment control and fault protection systems
  • Knowledge of basic engineering principles and advanced mathematics
  • Understanding of schematic, wiring, and logic diagrams
  • Knowledge of Generation, Transmission and Distribution system relays and associated protection schemes
  • Dependable, self-motivated, detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with other personnel
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases preferred
