Firewall Specialist
We seek to fill a Firewall Specialist role to support the NYC Office of Technology and Innovation – OTI with the New York government.
The ideal candidate is a NY resident with 12+ years of experience in networking, network security, firewalls, hands-on experience with Palo Alto, and a deep understanding and knowledge of DNS, NTP, BGP, and other critical infrastructure protocols.
Position Description: Our client is looking for a Security Engineer/Architect who will be required to assist with designing and deploying firewall security solutions deployed in large, complex networked environments. The architect/engineer must be highly specialized to guide various planning stages and implement secure design, processes, and resilient solutions. This resource will interact significantly with OTI Infrastructure Management leadership, its engineering and architecture teams, operations teams, and data center teams.
Scope of Services:
- Firewalls and Network – Next-Gen Firewall
- Routing and Defensive Security
- DNS
- DDOS: design, implementation, and configuration
Position Tasks:
- Participate in design meetings and reviews from a security and network perspective on assigned priority projects
- Propose networking security architecture to meet the business requirements while adhering to OTI’s best practices guidelines
- Collaborate with OTI’s Architect teams to develop operable solutions for Citywide requirements
- Complete all requirements for installing new network or firewall devices
- Follow the OTI process for new device provisioning of integrated systems
- Configure ports, configure firewalls and apply the base template configurations, integrate the appliances into the production network
- Develop and validate base configurations for the new firewall
- Follow OTI’s established procedures to replace firewalls and firewall rules successfully
Experience required
Mandatory Skills/Experience
- Minimum 12 years of experience in the field of networking, network security, and firewalls
- Must have hands-on experience with Palo Alto- 10+ years
- Deep understanding and experience of DNS, NTP, BGP, and other critical infrastructure protocols.
- Must understand BGP, MPLS, OSPF, and IS-IS routing protocols in a large environment
- Deep understanding of routing, load balancing, and networking infrastructure
- Hands-on experience in Cisco and Palo Alto firewall technology
- Additional experience in the field of load balancing
- Good project management skills
- Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects
