Overview
The Internet and Data Center Technologies Team is responsible for supporting the DOE data center network infrastructure that hosts
DOE’s applications and services. This infrastructure provides internet connectivity for all teachers, students, and administrators
citywide within the Department of Education. Providing, supporting, and designing network connectivity for all DOE applications and
services that travel the network infrastructure is critical for the business and day-to-day operations.
DIIT is also tasked with ensuring there is enough bandwidth to be consumed by the user community. With the increasing demands on
the network, bandwidth is being consumed at a high rate. This critical position will be responsible for designing, engineering, and
implementing data center network upgrades that will support the Internet bandwidth initiatives and expansion of the hosting
infrastructure. Additionally, the resource will be responsible for planning and migrating network connectivity from legacy
infrastructure to the new and decommissioning end-of-life equipment.
DIIT requires IT professional services to support the Internet and Data Center Technologies Team with above projects and any support
escalations related to them.
High-Level Project Goals
● Design network architecture to support the expansion of the data center network.
● Deploy data center network infrastructure (Cisco - ACI, Nexus switches, ASR routers, FirePower firewalls, VMware NSX, F5
Load Balancers) including racking and cabling.
● Configure and test the network infrastructure.
● Migration of legacy network connectivity to new infrastructure.
● Decommission legacy network equipment.
