Job Summary: The Infrastructure Engineer is tasked with the deployment, configuration, and migration of server systems within Cisco HyperFlex environments, emphasizing the transition to Cisco UCS-X Series B infrastructure. This role demands hands-on expertise in building and migrating converged infrastructure, with a particular focus on Cisco HyperFlex systems, UCS-X Series B, and VMware virtualization technologies. The engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth migrations, efficient server builds, and proper integration within the broader IT environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Server Build and Configuration:
- Assemble and configure Cisco HyperFlex nodes, ensuring optimal integration with fabric interconnects.
- Set up and configure new Cisco UCS-X servers, including chassis, compute nodes, and fabric interconnects.
- Install and configure server operating systems on new builds, focusing on VMware ESXi, ensuring proper network and storage connectivity.
- HyperFlex to UCS-X Migration:
- Plan and execute the migration of existing workloads from Cisco HyperFlex clusters to UCS-X Series B infrastructure.
- Reconfigure networking, storage, and compute resources during the migration process to align with UCS-X Series B architecture.
- Validate successful migration through testing and verification of system performance and resource allocation.
- VMware Integration:
- Integrate newly built UCS-X Series B systems into the existing VMware environment, configuring ESXi hosts and connecting them to vCenter Server.
- Ensure proper setup of virtual networks, storage policies, and resource pools in the VMware environment.
- Collaborate with VMware administrators to ensure seamless integration and operation post-migration.
- Hardware and Software Installation:
- Perform physical installation of servers, including rack mounting and cabling in a data center environment.
- Install and configure all necessary drivers, firmware, and management tools on new builds.
- Ensure compliance with company standards and best practices during the build and migration process.
- Documentation and Handover:
- Create comprehensive build and migration documentation, including network diagrams, configuration settings, and step-by-step procedures.
- Provide detailed handover documentation and training to operational teams following server builds and migrations.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with network, storage, and application teams to coordinate server builds and migration activities.
- Participate in project planning meetings to align server build activities with overall IT infrastructure projects.
- Provide technical guidance to other team members during complex build and migration tasks.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in server hardware assembly and configuration, with a focus on Cisco HyperFlex and UCS-X Series B environments.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco UCS architecture, including UCS Manager, fabric interconnects, and chassis configuration.
- Proficiency in VMware ESXi and vCenter Server.
- Experience with server migrations, particularly from HyperFlex to UCS-X Series B, is highly desirable.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
