Battery Systems Engineer

 

Job Description

The Battery Systems Engineer will focus on advanced battery technologies for the next generation of zero emission mining equipment and infrastructure. This role involves working cross-functionally with both external and internal teams, emphasizing integration of battery systems designed by partners and R&D facilities. The position entails handling high voltage trucks that operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -50C to 50C, as well as working with hydrogen battery products and Battery Management Systems (BMS).

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and optimize Battery Management Systems (BMS) designed by suppliers.
  • Modify and upgrade battery systems for trucks in the field.
  • Collaborate with electronics, design, and drive systems teams.
  • Design and develop new battery systems and technologies.
  • Conduct performance and safety tests on battery systems.
  • Analyze and interpret test data, preparing technical reports and documentation.
  • Work with manufacturing processes to ensure production efficiency and quality.
  • Identify and solve technical issues related to battery performance and lifespan.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, production, and quality assurance to deliver optimized battery solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in battery technology and integrate them into product designs when feasible.
  • Contribute to cost reduction initiatives through design and process improvements.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with electric drive systems, particularly OEM Battery Drive Systems.
  • Understanding how to integrate a battery system.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as Matlab, Simulink, and Creo.
  • Knowledge of cooling systems for battery development.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in automotive, construction, or agricultural industries.
  • Minimum of two and a half years to three years of tenure with a previous company.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the thermal side of battery development.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership in a role.
  • Experience in a development track where year one involves learning, year two involves execution, and year three involves delivering results.
