Job Title: SQL Database Administrator (DBA)
Job Duties:
- Primary DBA Responsibilities:
Provide primary database administration support to various application development teams by advising on design, implementing solutions, and optimizing databases for applications.
- MS SQL Server Expertise:
Act as the firm's MS SQL Server expert, evaluating and adopting features in new releases of the product.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with engineers across all business units to design, develop, and optimize databases for diverse application workloads.
- Database Standardization Support:
Provide support for database standardization programs, including design, development, and implementation.
- DBMS Environment Management:
Responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance of the database management system (DBMS) environment.
- Database Security:
Design and implement database security controls to safeguard the firm's data.
- Production Support & Capacity Planning:
Provide production support, capacity planning, and work on building the database infrastructure globally.
- OS & Database Upgrades:
Manage various OS and database-specific upgrades in Windows/Linux environments.
- Automation & Self-Service Tools:
Build self-service and automation tools using scripts/programs (e.g., PowerShell) to reduce manual processing and provide low-touch offerings.
- Vendor Collaboration:
Work closely with Microsoft Engineering and Product support teams to provide feedback and request new features based on the firm’s development needs.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another Engineering field.
- Experience:
- 5+ years in database design, replication, stored procedures, SQL performance tuning, and all aspects of high-value application database support.
- 5+ years of relational database development, troubleshooting, and design for highly concurrent applications.
- Experience with highly transactional systems.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in MS SQL Server.
- Detailed knowledge of Always On and Clustering.
- Experience with SQL Server migration from on-premise to Cloud (AWS preferred).
- Ability to set up, configure, and monitor SQL Server replication with complex patterns.
- Skilled in evaluating and tuning SQL for performance enhancement.
