Job Title - Database Operations Support

Overview:
Seeking a highly skilled Middleware Engineering Database Operations Support professional to join our team. This role is critical for the management and operational support of the firm's database infrastructure across a global environment. You will ensure the continuous health and performance of various database systems, collaborating with IT and application support teams to maintain and enhance our database environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24x7 operational support for a variety of database platforms including Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ, DB2, Postgres, Hadoop, MSSQL, MongoDB, Oracle, and more.
  • Administer and maintain local/global database infrastructure, including implementation, upgrades, and monitoring.
  • Conduct daily health checks on databases, replication alerts, and respond to critical requests from application teams.
  • Support hardware environments: Sun v240/440/4800/420r, Dell r610/710, HP 385/585/480 Blades, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v3/4/5/6), and Sun Solaris 5.8/10.
  • Manage database provisioning, user requests, and resolution alerts.
  • Perform root cause analysis for system failures and incidents, providing remediation and optimization solutions.
  • Participate in business continuity plan tests for database infrastructure across regions.
  • Manage database software/hardware end-of-life initiatives, including datacenter migrations.
  • Create and implement operational policies and procedures.
  • Lead training sessions on database management for local and global teams.
  • Perform basic file system administration tasks using Red Hat Enterprise Linux multipath utilities.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in database administration or a related field.
  • For DB2 candidates:
    • Strong experience with UDB/DB2 database administration, maintenance, and DB2 replication (SQL Rep and Q Replication).
    • Proficiency in DB2 HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery), DB2 version upgrades, DB2 builds, and DB2 Transportable Tablespaces.
  • For Sybase candidates:
    • Expertise in Sybase ASE (16.x, 15.x, ASE 12.x) and Sybase Replication (Replication Server 15.x, 12.x).
    • Performance tuning and distributed database management.
  • Strong knowledge of troubleshooting, DBA tasks, and performance tuning across Linux and Solaris platforms.
  • Experience with job scheduling tools such as Autosys and cron jobs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a global team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities and weekend shifts.
